A ticket counter is just there to sale you ticket and does not offer the same aide.

After viewing all your options, if you are still trying to cut costs, there are still many different ways to achieve that cheaper rate. For example, traveling by train in southern Europe is cheaper than the trains in northern Europe. Also, slower trains are much cheaper then express trains. If you travel overnight, you will save on money by not having to make any hotel accommodations. Lastly, purchasing a rail pass may help you save money, especially if you plan of doing a lot of travel.

In the instance that you do decide to purchase your ticket or pass at the ticket window, be sure of your departure time or train number, whether you will be traveling first- or second-class, whether your trip is one-way or a round-trip, and when you will be traveling. Remember, express trains generally require reservations far in advance, and are usually significantly more expensive.
